A look at evidence based approaches to the management of challenging behaviours including non-aversive approaches, positive behavioural support and low arousal techniques. As well case studies as to how these approaches and techniques can be used in the care environment.

A review of the literature on staff training in physical interventions is presented. Including studies which focus on physical intervention, breakaway skills and prone holds and a conclusion as to how physical intervention is utilised in a care environment.

A talk on organisational approaches to reducing physical interventions, focusing on how ethos in an organisation can influence staff training. Examples of low arousal techniques such as the walkabout method are provided as well as practical approaches to staff training in physical interventions.
