MANAGING VIOLENCE ACROSS CARE SETTINGS

This two-day conference will examine current approaches in managing violence and aggression across a number of care settings and will provide a platform for exploring the benefits of adopting innovative evidence based practices versus the more traditionalapproaches


The speakers will include:

To provide a research/practitioner approach to behaviour management within a non confrontational framework.
Delegates will be practitioners from a variety of health and social care backgrounds. The areas covered will be across specialities.

Additional Workshops – Friday 21st

Organisational approaches to reducing violence in care settings

There has been a considerable research emphasis in training staff to manage violent behaviours. A critical factor in the prevention and management of violence and aggression is the organisational ethos. This workshop is designed primarily for service managers who wish to audit and improve their organisational responses.

This workshop will be led by Dr Andrew McDonnell – Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Director Studio III


Trainers’ Workshop – 21st and 22nd

As well as attending part of the ‘organisational approaches’ workshop simultaneously running on the Friday, additional sessions for members of the Studio III Training the Trainers’ scheme will take place. These will include:

Individual reviews (These will be conducted throughout the weekend)
The role of Reactive Planning
Movement differences and disturbances
The reduction of restraint in care settings
BILD Code of Practice
Teaching key elements of the course
Trainers’ forum

Excursions

Optional excursions will be arranged for Sunday 23rd

Children sharing a room with parents stay free on a bed and breakfast basis subject to room availability. All additional meals will be charged for as taken.
